Arguably the most important of the various departments, it is a combination of police and justice facilities, and is roughly the equivalent to the Home Office of Muggle Britain or the Department of Justice in the United States

The Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes is responsible for repairing accidental magical damage.

This floor deals with all magical creatures.

| LEVEL 5 -- Department of International Magical Cooperation (3 sub-boards)
The Department of International Magical Cooperation is a division of the Ministry of Magic which, as its name suggests, tries to get wizards from different countries to cooperate. The British seats on the International Confederation of Wizards are based here, as are offices that regulate international magical law.

The Department of Magical Transportation is responsible for various aspects of magical transport

| LEVEL 7 -- Department of Magical Games and Sports (3 sub-boards)
This department was formed in response to the signing of the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy in 1692, when each individual Ministry became responsible for the consequences of all magical sports played within their countries. The current affairs of the department have to do with such sport-related pastimes as organising the Quidditch World Cup and the Triwizard Tournament.
The department has a casual atmosphere at the Ministry, with Quidditch posters all over its walls.

| LEVEL 8 -- The Atrium
The ceiling is peacock blue with golden symbols moving over it; the floor, polished dark wood. Halfway into the Atrium is the Fountain of Magical Brethren. The fountain features golden statues of a wizard, a witch, a centaur, a goblin, and a house-elf, all which spout water from various locales into the pool of water below. To enter the lifts allowing access to the rest of the Ministry (tenth floor excepted), visitors must pass through a set of golden gates, beside which is a security stand. The guard at the stand registers visitors' wands.

| LEVEL 9 -- The Department of Mysteries (6 sub-boards)
The Department of Mysteries is a section of the Ministry of Magic that carries out confidential research. Most of its operations are carried out in total secrecy. Few wizards within the Ministry actually know what is located within this department. Those wizards who work in the Department of Mysteries are known as Unspeakables because of the confidential nature of their work.

| LEVEL 10 -- Wizengamot Courtrooms
Stairway access ONLY
The Wizengamot is wizarding Britain's high court of law and parliament. Its administrative headquarters is located in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement of the Ministry of Magic. At least some of its trials take place in the dungeons of the lower levels.
